Pre-deposit before preferring WC Appeal should include interest

The division bench of Kerala High Court in New India Assurance Company Ltd. v. Biju &another held that before preferring an appeal against an award in Workmen’s Compensation Case, the employer should pre-deposit the awarded amount along with the interest accrued on the said amount till that date. According to the court the intension behind such pre-deposit is to avoid delay in making available compensation to the victim

    This order will help the victims a lot. Normally the Companies are trying to delay the cases without any valid reasons. The machinary to settle the claims are also quite ineffective in most of the time. However this order will meet the ends of justice to a great extend.
